An Australian CEO has revealed the very close moment she was “humbled” by her mother while trying to film content.
Jane Lu is the CEO of the wildly successful fashion brand, ShowPo.
The 38-year-old, who is dubbed “The Lazy CEO” on social media, has over 400,000 followers and has become one of Australia’s biggest business stars.
The CEO, who is also on “Shark Tank,” started her fashion business in 2010, which is now doing $100 million in annual revenue.
In 2023, the CEO got a raise from her $2 million [$1.23M USD] Balmain property at 14 million dollars [$8.62M USD] Birchgrove waterfront residence.
In 2024, it was named number 52 on The Australia’s New Rich List, which claimed she had a 46.6 percent increase in wealth by 2023, putting her estimated wealth at $107 million [$65.8M USD]. A year ago, her estimated net worth was around $70 million [$43M USD].
However, none of these achievements will save her from her mum’s criticism, and she shared the hilarious moment her mum, Queenie, made fun of her for wearing a sheer leopard print dress.
Lu was picking out the outfit she was planning to wear for a date night with her husband when her mother walked by and immediately “humbled” the wildly successful CEO.
“You can see the underwear,” Queenie pointed out. She added that it was “bad” and then said that it wasn’t her style.
On the Internet, people quickly enjoyed the relatable content of a mother who does not like current trends.
One person praised Queenie for being “honest” and another said it was a “classic” motherly response.
Although Lu and her mom don’t always agree, she has now launched a TikTok series where she gets her mom to style her.
Despite Lu’s mother not being impressed with the obvious moment, the CEO told news.com.au it is one of ShowPo’s best sellers.
“Our customers can’t get enough of it, and we’ve expanded on the trend by creating different iterations to suit different styles and occasions,” she explained.
“Using different types of sheer fabrications like lace, georgette, sequins and crochet has been a major factor in how we style and design with pure materials.â€
Lu said customers tend to style sheer pieces with jackets and oversized shirts to create a cool contrast.
The CEO said the broadcast trend spread because of social media, with influencers on Instagram and TikTok “normalizing” it.
“When you see her beautifully styled and confident on your feed, it naturally feels more accessible and wearable,” she said.
“Over time, as more people incorporate it into their wardrobe, it becomes less special and more mainstream.”
Lu said she has also found that the “versatility” of see-through styles makes them popular because they can be styled casually or for a formal event.
