A British man has gone viral after suffering a jaw reaction following a hair transplant.
The cosmetic treatment, often received by men experiencing baldness, has seen a dramatic 240 percent spike in the past decade, according to recent reports.
While the procedure has become commonplace, with more than 2,000 operations taking place every day worldwide, it is not without its risks—as London-born Kanah Flex recently discovered.
The professional choreographer has been documenting his hair journey on Tiktok, where he revealed that his head swelled dramatically after the procedure, so much so that he even compared himself to the fictional character ‘Megamind’.
In a recent video, Kanah detailed exactly which parts of his hair he was rejuvenating through the procedure.
“My hairline was fine, to be honest, [so I didn’t bring it forward] It was mostly my crown and donor area,” he said.
“I could have moved the hairline forward, and everyone said I should, but if I moved the hairline forward it would mean they would have to get more graphics.”
He explained that a graph is two hairs. As he had 4,000 graphics done, this meant 8,000 hairs were inserted into his head, none of which were used to bring his hairline forward as it would have meant more graphics took from the top of the head.
“It would have made my hair less thick on top, and I didn’t want that,” he said.
After a consultation at a clinic in the UK capital, Kanah walked through the risks before heading into the procedure room. They shaved their heads, which he was “gasped” to see.
However, the procedure, which involves his scalp being repeatedly injected before the operation, led to a large amount of swelling in his head.
The surgery took four hours in total and a headband was placed to manage the swelling.
“Oh my God, what’s going on,” he said when he first noticed the size of the head.
“God damn it, look at my head. I look like Squidward. I look like Megamind. I look like Roger from father. What’s going on?
“The hairline will come back again. I know I sound crazy but just the process. In six months I’ll be in butter, but now I’m looking like a foreigner. “
Better Health Victoria says swelling is an expected side effect of the procedure.
They also said that bruising, numbness, a tight feeling in the scalp and pain are common side effects.
However, the sheer amount of swelling caught the attention of social media, with many comparing Kanah to several fictional characters.
“It’s normal after a hair transplant, but you don’t have to take this band off,” one person commented.
Another social media user asked: “Why is the headband so tight?”
“What happens if you take off the headband,” posed another.
As one social media user commented: “I have never seen this level of swelling in all hair transplant surgeries.”
Three days later, Kanah joked that his “Megamind” swelling had gone down.
“I don’t know what any of you are talking about, my swelling is going down. You just have to trust the process,” he said.
He said he knew a few days ago that he “looked crazy” and “like Megamind” but now he was looking more normal.
“It’s coming,” he declared.
“In five months it will look brand new. Trust the process and keep watching. ” he said.
